Easton man arrested on attempted murder charges after alleged bar fight

A homeless man is facing attempted murder charges, after Police say he stabbed a man.

Easton Police say on Saturday, Officers responded to Goldborough Street for reports of a stabbing. Once on scene, Police say the found a 21-year-old Easton man, with three large lacerations on his back. The victim reportedly told Police that earlier in the night he had been jumped by three men at the Sidetracked Saloon, during which he was stabbed.

The victim was air-lifted to the University of Maryland – R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center. His injuries were apparently extensive, and he was listed in stable condition.

Detectives reportedly continued to investigate, and collected evidence at the Saloon. The victim was later released from the hospital.

Detectives say on Thursday, with help from the Maryland State Police Fugitive Task Force Unit, they arrested 62-year-old Joseph Smith. He was charged with attempted 1st and 2nd degree murder, assault 1st and 2nd degree, and reckless endangerment. Smith is currently being held behind bars without bond.
