Committee aims to improve caregiving within Maryland

Maryland State Senator Jim Mathias is a member of a newly minted Committee of Caregiving.

The committee, originally the Maryland Caregivers Support Coordinating Council, came to be in October, and they have nine items in their mission outline.

They are charged with gathering caregivers concerns while reviewing care programs in other states.

The committee takes that information and develop a model family caregiver support program.

Other goals include:

  •  Provide ongoing analysis of best practices in family caregiver support programs in this and in other states
  • Coordinate activities of existing and proposed family caregiver support services among State and local units
  • Research available funding sources and explore possibilities for additional funds
  • Identify unmet needs and priorities for additional funds
  • Monitor and implement the Commission's recommendations

"So many caregivers now are immediate family members.  So we want to make certain that we bring that hope and that confidence and trust from Maryland state government," said Mathias.  "We're doing the very best we can in Maryland to give them good health, good living accommodations, safe living accommodations."
