REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. After 18 long months of being shuttered due to COVID-19, the Rehoboth Convention Center is finally opening back up. The first group through the doors will be CAMP Rehoboth.

They’re hosting two concerts on September 3rd and 4th. One being the Skivvies, all the way from New York, on Saturday. And if you’re a Broadway, Sunday’s event is sure to get you excited. Jennifer Holliday, the original Dream Girl, is going to be taking the stage. “Even with COVID going on and everything else, she’s willing to come in and support our community. She’s never been to Rehoboth Beach before, which is pretty exciting,” said CAMP Rehoboth Development Director Anita Broccolino.

Several other community events are on the calendar at the Convention Center for this year. That includes pageants, balls, a jazz festival, Oktoberfest, blood drives, and a flu shot clinic. Broccolino says the Convention Center is a huge asset for a community organization. She says without the venue, it can be hard to find space for programming. “Had they not and we had to use a different venue or not done the event, we wouldn’t have necessarily made all of the funds we normally would and that we need to sustain the free services that we provide to the community,” said Broccolino.

CAMP Rehoboth says if you’re planning to attend this weekend’s events, make sure you bring a mask. Plus, they’re requiring guests to be vaccinated. If you’re unvaccinated, you must bring a negative COVID-19 test. Seating will be socially distanced. Masking in all city facilities, including the Convention Center, is required regardless of vaccination status.
