Harrington strong arm robbery under investigation

Brandon A. Givens, 30, of Seaford

The Delaware State Police say they are currently investigating the strong arm robbery of a 76-year-old man at the Delaware State Fairgrounds.

According to the report, the preliminary investigation has found that on Saturday, around 3PM, troopers responded the Delaware State Fairgrounds, Green lot, 18500 South DuPont Highway, in Harrington, for a strong arm robbery.

When troopers arrived, they found the suspect, Brandon Givens, 30 of Seaford, detained by “good Samaritans.”

Givens was placed under arrest by responding troopers, and the victim, a 76-year-old man of Denton, Maryland, was found at the Green lot where the Wilson’s Auction was being held.

Officials say the victim was a volunteer for the Burrsville Ruritan Club, selling food and beverages from a cart at the auction as a fundraiser for the club. Givens apparently appeared behind the victim, grabbed cash from his hand, and tried to run away.

According to the report, the victim held onto the money and both the suspect and victim fell to the ground during a struggle in which Givens was able to get hold of the cash, and run away.

Officials say that the victim, good samaratins, and an off duty trooper chased, captured, and detained Givens until troopers arrived. The money was returned to the victim, and he was not injured.

Givens was taken to Troop 3 where he was formally charged with robbery 1st degree. He was arraigned before Justice of the Peace Court 7 and committed the James T. Vaugh Correctional Center in default of a $25,000 secured bond.
