Lewes man arrested on assault charges

LEWES, Del. – A Lewes man was arrested after he reportedly assaulted an acquaintance Sunday morning.

Shortly before 10:30 a.m., police were called to the 23000 block of Martin Lane in Lewes for a reported assault. It was learned that 39-year-old Michael Fitzgerald approached a 48-year-old male acquaintance, at which point the two got into an argument about money. The argument escalated, and Fitzgerald allegedly hit the male victim multiple times in the face.

The victim was taken to Beebe Memorial Hospital where he was treated for serious physical injuries.

After Fitzgerald was identified as the suspect, he was located and taken into custody at his residence. He was charged with felony second degree assault and released on his own recognizance.
