Seaford breaks ground on new apartment complex

It was a beautiful day for a celebration in Seaford Tuesday morning. Governor Jack Markell was there and joined by city and state leaders to break ground on a new apartment building.

The complex, which will be called the Residences at River Place, will sit on what right now is an empty lot in the middle of downtown Seaford.

The building is a part of the downtown development district program. The program makes grant money available for investments in Wilmington, Dover, and Seaford in areas in need of rehabilitation in their downtown district.

The grant for this project was $670,000. The Residences at River Place will include 72 apartment units, two elevator buildings, and parking for 124 vehicles.

David Genshaw, the mayor of Seaford says, “I think once you plant all these people down here living, they will need a place to get their coffee and things like that. We’ve already had people thinking that way, but I think this is just going to push them over the edge. They’ll be ready to invest. The city of Seaford is willing and ready to make it happen.”

The first phase of the Residences at River Place are scheduled to be completed by August 2016. Applications are being accepted now. The developer tells 47 ABC if a leases are signed by the end of October he’ll throw in a free large screen TV.
