Neighborhood reacts to son stabbing mother

A woman on Stockridge Drive in Salisbury says, “I woke up in the middle of the night and heard some commotion out front.”

She’s talking about her neighbor 22- year- old Conner Salmon.

According to police,  Salmon admitted to an officer on scene that he beat his mother before stabbing her with a screwdriver. Police also say she was stabbed with a kitchen knife. Court documents show Salmon told his mom he wanted to kill them both by lighting their house on fire.

Authorities say they found Salmon inside the house which had a strong smell of lighter fluid. He apparently told the officers quote, “There’s no fire. The chair wouldn’t light.” After that statement, that’s when he was taken into custody.

Salmon says, “It’s really unfortunate that you can’t feel safe in your home and you have to be attacked by your own child.”

47 ABC caught up with Mike Powers, the secretary and treasurer for the homeowner’s association in Salmon’s neighborhood.

He continues, “That young man lived in 510? Oh that is surprising.”

Powers heard about the incident for the first time when speaking with 47 ABC. He says that’s a safety concern and wishes he knew about the incident sooner. He says the goal of their HOA is to keep homeowners aware and protected. However, members in the community have expressed concerns over safety.

Mike Powers says, “We assure them that we try to provide the best safety.”

He says to do that, the communication between all neighbors needs to be present.

Powers continues, “You see something let’s call it in. Don’t sit back and say well I think maybe, he’ll do it or he’ll do it. No. Do the right thing and call it in and who knows. It may be the right call and save somebody’s life.”
