UPDATE: Driver charged with DUI in DSU Homecoming crash

Gregory Ligon, 28, of Mitchelville, Md.

The 28-year-old Maryland man who Police say injured seven people at Delaware State University’s homecoming weekend, has been charged.

Dover Police say Gregory Ligon, of Mitchelville, Md., has been charged with first degree vehicular assault, six counts of second degree vehicular assault, DUI, and no proof of insurance. Ligon is accused of getting out of his car in the DSU fraternity picnic area, while it was still in reverse on Saturday night around 7:30 PM.

He then reportedly got back into the car, but hit the gas instead of the break, accelerating over a curb in into a grassy area full of people. In total, Police say seven people were hurt, one of whom was pinned between a tree and the car. Bystanders reportedly pulled Ligon from the vehicle after it hit a second tree, causing it to stop.

Police say Ligon was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Ligon has since been released, after posting $9,000 bond.
