Monday Memo – November 2, 2015

MONDAY MEMO
TO: ALL STAFF
FROM: KATHLEEN
DATE: 2 NOVEMBER 2015

OUT IN THE COMMUNITY

Account Executive and Salisbury volunteer firefighter Rob Strobel participated in the Ocean City 911 Memorial Stair Climb this past weekend.  It is an event used to honor the 343 Firefighters who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, as well as raise funds for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.  This is done by climbing the equivalent of the same number of stories of the World Trade Towers, 110 stories, as well as having each individual fallen Firefighter honored by a climber in the event.  Each climber donates $30 and Rob climbed fully loaded with his turnout gear.  A full gear climb is actually voluntary, but Rob, being the tough guy that he is, didn’t take the easy way out!  In addition to full gear, Rob sliced 15 minutes from last year’s total time.  The project raised a little over $35,000.  Rob is shown here with Jay Jester, event organizer, just after the “Blessing of the Helmets”.

  • Last Thursday, Lenita Wesson spoke to a class at Salisbury University.  The class is designed to introduce students to those “soft” skills for which employers tend to look and is one of the first courses students take upon admittance to the Perdue School of Business.  Lenita spoke on negotiating, workplace do’s and don’t’s, time and stress management, communicating with your boss, social skills and professionalism in cyberspace.
  • Thursday evening, John, Teri and Phil will represent the station at the MCE/ Palmer Gillis Entrepreneurship banquet.
  • Friday at noon, Phil, Teri and Kurt will represent us at the Kent County Tourism Awards Banquet.
  • Friday at noon, I will represent us at the Awards banquet for the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore.
  • If you are working with an organization that is sponsoring a food or clothing drive for a specific day (can’t do on-going events), send the particulars over to me  and I’ll put the information into rotation on our Community Service Food Drive schedule.

THE VOLUNTEER LIST for Bell Ringers for Salvation Army has been completed.  Special thanks to the Sales and News Departments who fully staffed the openings.  A list has been sent to all Department Heads who will send out reminders a few days prior to the event.

UPDATE ON LOBBY RENOVATIONS:

  • We are still awaiting quotes from painting and hand rail vendors who were in last week.
