Breast screenings down, DE breast cancer coalition helping women get screened

DELAWARE  – The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition says they’re dedicated to helping women get health screenings and they tell us, health screenings have declined drastically over the past year, specifically by 58%. Now they are reaching out to the public to make sure women get scheduled .

According to the DE Breast Cancer Coalition, their organization is dedicated to creating a community where every person diagnosed becomes a survivor and allowing all individuals to get regular screenings no matter what their insurance is.

They say during the pandemic, the decline in screenings was due to screening sites being closed, and even when reopened screenings were not essential during COVID. However, they say the sooner women get into their facilities the sooner they can detect it. Which is why it’s important to make sure to get women back into regular screenings as soon as possible. “Our job is to help people who qualify for screening for life, apply for screening for life, get screening for life, and then get screened,” says Patient Navigator with the DE Breast Cancer Coalition, Skye Ryan. “If we can reach out, talk about early detection, we can see that the detection at an early period really keeps the treatment and the fear at a much lower level.”

Those with the breast care coalition also tell us, if you’re interested in learning more about how they help just call Ryan directly at 302-672-7834, or visit their website.
