Police investigating three car crash in Little Heaven
LITTLE HEAVEN, Del. – A 63-year-old man is dead after a serious crash involving three cars Saturday night. Delaware State Police say around 9:11 p.m. the Rock Hall, MD man was driving a 2009 Nissan Altima on State Route 1 near Exit 88. The driver went into the median and crossed into oncoming traffic. That’s when police say the Nissan collided with a Ford Flex. The impact of the crash ripped the left rear wheel off of the Ford.
A 25-year-old man from Lincoln, DE was driving the Ford, and was able to remain in control of the vehicle. Police say he came to a controlled stop on the shoulder of the highway. He was not hurt in the crash.
After the Nissan hit the Ford, police say it kept going. The Nissan hit a Toyota Camry head on. Police say both vehicles spun and landed up against a guardrail. The 59-year-old driver of the Toyota was taken to Bayhealth Kent General and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say driver of the Nissan was not wearing his seatbelt. After the crash, he was taken to Bayhealth kent General, where he was pronounced dead. His name is being withheld as police work to notify his loved ones.
Traffic on the northbound side of State Route 1 was impacted for about five hours as investigators worked to reconstruct the crash. The scene was eventually cleared.
