Sussex County’s ‘CARES Conference’ providing resources available for senior citizens

Sussex County has a growing senior population, but many may not know the resources that are available for them.

Services that can be life changing and could even allow senior citizens to stay in the comfort of their own home rather than move to assisted living.

The CARES conference took place with the goal of educating and informing seniors.

As we get older, we face multiple challenges. And over 22 vendors under one roof were hoping to attack those issues.

"We just have this growing aging population, we're seeing different trends of people retiring here and then bringing their parents along with them, who are aging in place 85 to 90 I would say, " Meals on Wheels representative, Katie Leister, tells 47 ABC.

This CARES Conference is making life easier for seniors in need. But many, do not realize that those resources are available to them.

The biggest take-a-way for this conference is for elders to know that there are multiple agencies working for them.

Beyond that, these vendors who are networking and building relationships can serve the community the best way possible.

This event was created by the Sussex County Advisory Committee on Aging Adults with Physical Disabilities.

The committee's mission is to increase dialogue and give support to programs that may affect older adults.

It's an 11-member panel but they are hoping to reach each and every single senior citizen in the county.
