Seaford PD arrested a man in possession of a handgun

Police in Seaford have taken a man into custody for both drug, and gun charges after a brief pursuit.

Wilbur Doughty, 26-year-old, of Georgetown was arrested on Monday after Seaford Police Officers were on patrol in the area of Days Inn.

Officers observed the interior light left on inside a Kia Soul parked inside the parking lot. After investigating the incident, Officers observed a handgun in plain sight, lying on the floor of the car.

Officials say they continued to observe, later attempting to stop Doughty on Sussex Highway, after he reportedly left the parking lot in the car.

The vehicle then fled and after a brief pursuit the Doughty reportedly fled on foot from the vehicle in the area of the Delux Market on Concord Road.

Reports say when Doughty exited the vehicle he was reportedly carrying a handgun and once he was taken into custody without incident after a brief foot chase, he was also found in possession of approximately 100 baggies of heroin and drug paraphernalia.

Doughty was transported to the Seaford Police Department, and charged with Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Resisting Arrest, Possession of Heroin, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Numerous traffic charges.

He is currently being held at Sussex Correctional Institute in lieu of a $35,773.00 bond.
