City of Salisbury’s Lynching Memorial Task Force to partner with Equal Justice Initiative

SALISBURY, Md – The City of Salisbury’s Lynching Memorial Task Force will now be partnering with the group Equal Justice Initiative from Montgomery, Alabama for a Community Remembrance Project.
The goal of the project is to create historical markers that talk about three Salisbury residents who were victims of lynching.
They plan to memorialize the victims.
Where these markers will be placed is yet to be announced.
A member of the task force says this a positive step for the Salisbury community.
“So, being able to craft a narrative on the sign shows that these were people just people caught up in one of the worst parts of our community’s history and that they deserve to be remembered as people,” said James Yamakawa, a member of the task force.
The historical markers should be ready for installation by next February.
