Local man bringing relief and restoration to Houston

Folks in Texas are continuing to get hit hard by Hurricane Harvey.

Flooding caused by the storm leaving many displaced and a path of wreckage in it's wake.

The call for help has been put out and here on Delmarva one local group is answering that call and gearing up to head out to offer some relief.

"It's a pretty long drive, but it's worth it," says Robert Keefer.

Keefer and four others from H20 Pro in Frankford, Delaware are driving over 20 hours to get to those who desperately need help after Hurricane Harvey destroyed not just their homes but livelihoods.

"We want to try and get in with any type of local people that we can to distribute things like clothing food, gift cards so people can buy other essential things they need. So first step is just getting down there and find out what we can do to help people," explains Keefer.

Keefer, who owns the flood damage company, says providing help to those most vulnerable is something he's been doing for over 15 years.

So heading out to help those affected by Harvey is a no brainer, regardless of how long his stay might be.

Keefer spent over eight months in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina hit just 12 years ago.

"Responding to hurricane damages like Hurricane Katrina, Rita, Ike I was out there for that. We see the impact on the community and we really want to go out there and do something more than just restoration," Keefer continues, "Sometimes you're there for 30 days and sometimes it can be much larger. With the size of this catastrophe, we could be down there for a significant amount of time."

Keefer tells 47 ABC after immediate care is taken care of, that's when H20 Pro will start doing what they do best, cleaning up damage.

"A lot of people are usually out of work because businesses have been ruined so they have no source of income. The best thing we can do is turn around and have all our guys act as project managers and then start training them on how to help their own community rebuild and we can give them employment as well."

Keefer adds it's tough seeing folks who have literally lost everything, but helping them restore their lives is the reason he continues to go.

For him, it's more than just fixing houses.

"You get caught up in that and the responding and fix houses but but people often forget about actually helping people restore their lives and helping them in ways beyond just their house. So supplying needs, food, hygiene items and things in that nature are extremely important in times like this."

Keefer is planning to drive to Houston on Thursday or Friday, but right now they are asking for donations.

They've teamed up with the Millsboro and Millville fire departments, where donations can be dropped off.

Keefer says any donations with hygiene products and gift cards would be best.

Donations will be accepted at H20 Pro's office located at 34407 Dupont Blvd. Frankford, DE. or at the Millsboro and Millville fire departments from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
