Dover man sentenced to over eight years for selling heroin laced with fentanyl

WILMINGTON, Del. – A Dover man has been sentenced to more than eight years in federal prison for selling heroin laced with fentanyl back in 2018.

In January of 2018, 44-year-old Cornelius Riley sold an ounce of heroin to an undercover officer. Riley then reportedly made arrangements to sell an additional 4.5 ounces of heroin to the same undercover officer later that week. On the day of the say, Riley was arrested at the agreed-upon place, at the agreed-upon time, with the agreed-upon amount of heroin in the back of his car.

Forensic chemical analysis of the substance showed that the heroin was mixed with furanyl fentanyl, a deadly fentanyl analogue.

Riley was convicted of distributing and possessing with the intent to distribute heroin in May of 2019. On August 26th, he was sentenced to a total of 100 months behind bars.
