African American Task Force to meet in coming weeks
DELAWARE – Delaware’s state leaders will have the first virtual meeting for the African American Task Force Wednesday, August 26th. The task force is designed to study inequalities for under-served African American communities in the first state.
Some of the issues they’ll be looking at include education, health care, housing, environmental justice – plus many more. Each issue will have its own sub committee, which will report its findings to the task force.
Co-Chair of the task force and State Representative Stephanie Bolden says she hopes the group will play an active role in fighting racial inequality. “I think it’s something that’s really needed in the state of Delaware. I think we are going in the right direction to address these things prior to them getting out of control. I think we’re being proactive,” said Rep. Bolden.
Rep. Bolden says the task force is expected to put out a final report in January of 2021. She says that from that final report there may be some suggestions for legislation on how to move towards racial equality.
The public is invited to offer comment, but must register for the meetings in advance. You can do so by emailing AfricanAmericanTaskForce@delaware.gov.
