Blades barn fire kills five horses, causes $750k in damages

The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating a barn fire in Seaford that happened on Monday morning.

The fire which fully involved a 130' x 30' horse stable is on Airport Road. The Blades Volunteer Fire Company assisted by Laurel, Seaford, Bridgeville and Greenwood Volunteer Fire Companies responded to the scene to find heavy fire showing on one end of the barn and farm staff on scene rescuing horses.

One firefighter was taken to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital with minor burns to his feet and five horses died during the rescue efforts.

The State Fire Marshal's Office responded to the scene to find out the origin and cause. The investigation is ongoing. Total damages are estimated at $750,000.

According to the Blades Volunteer Fire Company, at 7:20 a.m., firefighters responded to a fully involved barn blaze on Trotter Lane at Airport Road. Officials say that five horses were killed and that the fire was a total loss.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office.

Officials say that units from Seaford, Georgetown, Laurel, Bridgeville and Greenwood also responded to the blaze.
