Three charged following incident at Georgetown DMV
GEORGETOWN, Del. – Delaware State Police say three people were arrested on disorderly conduct and other related charges following a recent incident at the Georgetown DMV.
Troopers say they received a call from a DMV employee shortly before 3 p.m., who reported that a subject at her counter had an active capias. A computer check revealed that the man, 23-year-old Kenneth Leitch, did have an active capias out of the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas.
A trooper responded to the DMV and made contact with Leitch, advising him of the capias. As the trooper tried to place him in handcuffs, Leitch resisted arrest and allegedly slapped the trooper’s hands. Leitch’s girlfriend was also present and became disorderly and intervened to try to prevent Leitch from being arrested. Leitch’s mother then walked into the DMV and also became disorderly, trying to prevent the arrest of her son.
The trooper’s uniform was damaged during the struggle with Leitch, however the trooper was not injured.
Leitch was eventually taken into custody and charged with resisting arrest with force or violence that intentionally prevents a peace officer from effecting an arrest (felony), offensive touching of law enforcement officer, criminal mischief, and disorderly conduct. He was held at SCI on $2,500 secured bond.
Leitch’s 21-year-old girlfriend and 48-year-old mother were each charged with offensive touching of law enforcement officer, hindering prosecution, and disorderly conduct. Both were released on $2,500 unsecured bond.
