Harrington man sentenced for shooting at DSP trooper

Officials say that a Harrington man pleaded guilty and was sentenced in Superior Court on attempted murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony charges related to him shooting at a Delaware State Trooper.

In July 2016, troopers responded to a call of 31-year-old Aaron Purnell, with a gun at the Alder Run Apartments just south of Dover.

Purnell ran from the first trooper to arrive, and as officers chased Purnell, Purnell fired one shot that missed the trooper.

Troopers took Purnell into custody a short time later after finding him in a nearby backyard.  A Superior Court judge sentenced Purnell to 28 years in prison, followed by two years of probation.
