Sports complex aims to bring sports tournaments to Delaware

An added advantage of the Rt. 1 overpass project by the Delaware Department of Transportation that broke ground Friday , is that it will create easier access to the Kent County Sports Complex, or as it’s being called the Delaware Turf Complex. The complex is scheduled to be completed in spring of 2017.
We’re told the 84-acre complex will be the first of its type in Delaware, and will have 10 artificial turf fields, as well as two natural grass fields
Officials say the facility will host clinics, camps, tournaments, along with some national events. It was also give Delaware athletes a place at home to showcase their talents.
“Athletes from Delaware have been having to go other places, you know having the opportunity to stay here once or twice and reduce that financial burden to the athletes in Delaware also becomes very beneficial,” said Rob Smith, director for the sports complex.
Initial projections estimate the sports complex will bring in between $20 million and $30 million a year for the area, starting after two years of operation.
Officials say it well also draw more people to Delaware’s beaches and tourist industry.
