Woman cited after crash involving prison van in Georgetown

Police say that a three car crash that involved a prison van, sent five people to an area hospital on Wednesday morning in Georgetown.

According to Delaware State Police, around 8:43 a.m., on Wednesday, a 42-year-old male driver of a Department of Corrections Dodge Caravan was stopped for a flagger behind a line of traffic in a construction zone on Old Furnace Road just west of Rementer Road traveling eastbound.

A 27-year-old male driver of a Chevrolet Impala was reportedly stopped directly behind the prison van, and a 72-year-old Seaford woman, was allegedly driving a Jeep Patriot eastbound. That's when police say the Jeep Patriot approached the traffic and did not stop.

She then reportedly struck the back of the Impala which in turn struck the back of the Caravan. The 42-year-old correctional officer/driver of the caravan, along with another Correctional officer sitting in the front passenger's seat and a 56-year-old male inmate sitting in the back seat were all taken by EMS to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The 27-year-old driver of the Impala was taken to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital and treated for non life threatening injuries.

The 72-year-old driver of the Jeep Patriot was treated for non-life threatening injuries at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital. Police say that she was cited for inattentive driving and failure to have insurance in possession.
