Virginia State Police investigate deadly force incident

The Virginia State Police are investigating the fatal shooting of an armed man by a law enforcement officer in Buchanan County.
The deadly force incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. Saturday in the town of Grundy, located in far southwest Virginia.
In a news release, state police say the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call concerning a suicidal person. State police say a second call described the individual as armed and outside the residence firing his weapon.
When officers arrived at the residence, state police said the man was shot by an officer after a confrontation. The man died at the scene. The responding officers were not injured.
State police said they’re investigating the shooting at the request of local law enforcement officials.
