Authorities searching for walkaway inmate in Dover

William Schumate, 44, of Bridgeville, Del.

Law enforcement in Delaware says they are looking for an inmate, who didn’t return from an authorized work pass.

The Delaware Department of Correction says 44-year-old William Schumate didn’t returned to the Morris Community Corrections Center in Dover, after leaving on an authorized work pass. Authorities say attempts to find Schumate have been unsuccessful, so his status has been changed to escapee.

Schumate is described as a white man, standing 5′ 11″, weighing 150 pounds, with brown hair, and blue eyes. He apparently has some facial hair, and tattoos on both of his arms. Schumate was apparently serving time on a burglary third degree charge. His last known address was in Bridgeville.

Officials say Level 4 facilities are for offenders who are transitioning back into the community, and are not secured like level 5 prisons. Offenders are allowed to leave the building for work, to look for a job, or attend approved treatment sessions.

Anyone with information about Schumate’s whereabouts is asked to contact 1-800-542-9524 or local authorities.
