Dover man charged on gun offenses after chase

A Dover man is facing charges, after Police say he tossed away a gun, while fleeing from them.

Dover Police say on Tuesday evening, just before 9:00 PM, Officer responded to South New Street. The Officers say they had just received a tip about 22-year-old Zechariah Gilbert, carrying a firearm, and being dressed in all black.

Once on scene, Police say Gilbert saw them, and fled on foot. During the chase, Police say Gilbert threw the firearm, which was recovered by Officers.

After his arrest, Gilbert was charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, resisting arrest, and tampering with physical evidence. He is now being held at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center, on a $6,500 secured bond.
