UMES physician assistant studies program
PRINCESS ANNE, Md.- The University of Maryland Eastern Shore announced their physician assistant studies is coming back after they’ve received accreditation for it.
President Dr. Heidi Anderson said the graduate physician assistant studies program will return this Fall 2020.
UMES previously had the program, but stopped instruction in 2015 when they voluntarily relinquished their accreditation.
Dr. Anderson said the process to earn the new accreditation started in October of 2018.
We are told that this program was needed because there is a shortage of health professionals on the Shore.
“Adding this sixth component will allow us to do a couple of things, we can train those students in a team based fashion, but also we can take that out to the community,” Dr. Anderson said.
We are told that the program will allow for 20 students to enroll for Fall 2020.
They already have over 600 applications for those spots.
