Fenwick Island Police Hand Out Firearm Safety Locks
FENWICK ISLAND, Del.– The Fenwick Island Police Department is giving residents the resources to be safe gun owners.
The Police Department partnered with Project Childsafe to hand out free gun locks to the community.
The locks are designed to help prevent children and other unauthorized individuals from accessing fire arms.
The safety locks are all part of an effort to promote responsible gun ownership.
Police Chief Mike Morrissey explained to WMDT how the safety locks work.
“You turn the key and the suspension, the wire comes out, you run it through the action of the gun,” Morrissey said. “And then you secure your firearm and your also supposed to have a case to further secure your firearm in.
Officials added that having these locks on hand is especially important during hunting season.
“It’s hunting season coming up so there’s going to be a lot of guns being taken in and out,” Morrissey said. “So the gun locks are a good way to just secure your fire arm and they are an extra level of security.”
Residents interested in getting a gun lock of their own can contact the Fenwick Island Police Department.
