Emergency Preparedness Seminar Asks Greenwood Residents: ‘Are You Ready?’

GREENWOOD, Del.–The Greenwood Public Library hosted a “Are You Ready” seminar in partnership with Delaware Department of Public Safety in honor of September being national preparedness month.

Emergency official Timothy Cooper says it’s important to be prepared regardless of what time of year it is.

“So things could happen at any time,” Cooper said. “You could get a tornado touched down those happen without warning so you always need to be ready.”

Cooper also shares that the best items to have in your emergency kits are items that don’t have expiration dates.

“Anything nonperishable food, water, battery powered radios, and flashlights are good to have in your kits” Cooper said.

Greenwood Public Library director Melissa Johnson says that libraries are a great place to hold sessions like these because of there outreach of people.

“We are the forerunners of information,” Johnson said. “So it’s important we let people know of the dangers in their area.”

Officials say they hope people walk away from this session feeling prepared and informed for the next possible emergency.
