Wicomico Deputies Seize 17 Ounces of Marijuana, Thousands of Dollars During Traffic Stop
SALISBURY, Md. – A Salisbury man was arrested after Wicomico deputies say they seized nearly 17 ounces of marijuana and thousands of dollars from his car during a traffic stop.
Police arrested 32-year-old Tevin Ezra Mahammed Dupont on charges of possessing cannabis with intent to distribute and possessing cannabis in excess of the civil limit, which is one and a half ounces in Maryland. He has since been released on his own recognizance.
Just after 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 28, a Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of East Lincoln and Spring Avenue in Salisbury after observing a traffic violation. A registration check revealed that the vehicle’s registration was suspended and subject to a Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration tag pick-up order.
As the vehicle stopped in the area of Springfield Circle, a front-seat passenger fled on foot, discarding a large bag containing suspected marijuana. Deputies were unable to locate the passenger.
The driver, identified as Dupont, was detained while deputies searched his vehicle and person, recovering the following:
- Approximately 475.98 grams of suspected marijuana
- $12,141.75 in U.S. currency
- Two cellular telephones
- Numerous empty packaging bags consistent with those used to package the suspected marijuana
Further, detectives say the currency was found on Dupont and throughout the interior vehicle. Based upon the totality of the circumstances, investigators believe the currency constitutes proceeds from, or may have been used in connection with, the unlawful distribution of controlled dangerous substances. Dupont was arrested and transported to the Wicomico County Detention Center for processing.
