Discover Delmarva Arts: Salisbury-Wicomico Arts Council

SALISBURY, Md. — The Salisbury-Wicomico Arts Council has been uplifting local artists for over 50 years — and with a new building and several projects underway, the council is as ready as ever to serve the community.

Executive Director Therese Hamilton says SWAC’s new home — located on East Main Street in Salisbury — is a big step up from their previous location, and will help them fulfill their mission of making the arts more accessible for all.

“The mind reels at what we can do here,” Hamilton said.

The new building is equipped with a theatre, a gallery, classrooms, and conference rooms, with plans for even more. “We’re going to have a SWAC museum here, where we’re going to have the history of arts here on the shore. . . Overall, the fact that we have our own little theatre now that seats 100 people – the sky is the limit really.”

And in the future, the council wants to open their doors to local artists — giving them the opportunity to share their talents with the community. “We’re looking for artists in residence that want to teach [music lessons] here. We’re going to have a nice piano here on the stage.”

And as Therese says — SWAC gives back! With more room to breathe, the nonprofit can expand their instrument barn — where students in need can grab a refurbished instrument to use for years to come. “We have accordions, guitars, a cello, flutes, clarinets, trombones, everything. . . We believe in wanting to help children make music, and they’re here, so ask us, we would love to be able to help!”
