Kinds of Georgetown! Ravens Top Knights To Advance

The Sussex Tech baseball team earned a hard fought 3-2 win over rival Sussex Central in the first round of the DIAA State Tournament on Monday. The Ravens overcame an early two run deficit, before taking the lead for good off a RBI fielders choice from Brayden Graham.

The Golden Knights came out and would throw the first punch in the top of the 1st. Trey Toppin would blast a solo home run to get it started, before they were able to work runners on the corner with 1 out. The Ravens would catch the runner headed for 2nd in a run down, but while they were distracted with that, Austin Littleton would take off and score to push their lead to 2-0.

But it was all Tech from there. The Ravens would answer back in a big way in the bottom of that frame. They would work the bases loaded with no out, forcing the Golden Knights to go to the pen. Colin Bergh would then have a RBI fielders choice to score the first run, followed by a RBI single from Kyle Lux to tie up the game. Toppin would work out of the inning from there. after the teams exchanged a couple strong defensive plays to keep it tied, the home team would finally take the lead in the 5th. Brayden Graham would send a chopper to 2nd with a man on 3rd, and Lux would be able to score the go-ahead run. Sussex Central would then threaten in the top of the 6th, getting runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 out, but Brady Parks would work himself out of the jam in relief, getting two straight infield pop ups. Parks continued his strong outing in relief into the 7th. There Central would try and get their lead off man on by bunting, but he would get thrown out at first. That was followed by a backwards K, before a grounder to short would end the game.

Sussex Tech now advance to face No. 2 Smyrna on Tuesday.
