DelDot error to cost taxpayers ~$500K

DelDot officials say the modification of a bridge in Wilmington will now cost Delaware taxpayers nearly $500,000.
We’re told the Newport Road Bridge, which sits just down the road from Delcastle Technical High School, needs to be raised six-inches to accommodate the height of trains running below it.
This after it was rebuilt 2011 for $5-million-dollars.
DelDot spokesperson Geoff Sundstrom says the blame is on DelDot after surveyors took incorrect measurements.
“People have the right to be frustrated. It’s a learning opportunity to make sure that these kinds of mistakes don’t get repeated in the future and my sense is they have made improvements in their process.” Said Governor Jack Markell.
We also asked the Governor about whether or not this will push back the completion of other DelDot projects, he told us that they should be able to absorb the cost and follow through with existing plans.
