Insider tips for finding parking in Rehoboth Beach

Warm weather means people are ready to hit the beaches.
Sharon Lynn, the Rehoboth Beach City Manager says, “we’re open for business, with visitors coming, getting their parking permits, getting ready and gearing up for the season.”
However, one thing people are not so in love with is finding parking.
Jay Dentino, a Rehoboth Beach resident says, “summertime parking situation can be just awful.”
Michelle Gleason, a Camden resident says, “we drive around and drive around until we find parking.”
This comes as the off season comes to a close and city officials tell us this Friday parking meters will start being enforced. Lynn says the city has added a few things this season to make paying for parking a little less hectic.
“We have 97 new meters that will be taking quarters and credit cards,” says Lynn.
However, places like Rehoboth Beach Public Library, are taking it upon themselves to keep tourists out their parking lot.
Jessica Prayer, the meeting room library coordinator says, “we have to police our parking lot so it’s not being taken advantage of by tourists or people who are not using the library.”
As for some insider tips on where to park during the summer months, Jay Dentino tells us, “go down the side streets or further out than that.”
Also, if people just want to avoid parking altogether, one frequent visitor suggests checking out the park and ride.
David Hefter, from Wilmington says,”that’s probably one of the better things to do. To park outside and have a bus that takes you in.”
Officials tell us fines for expired meters or not paying for parking are $30. Meters will be effective through the second Sunday after Labor Day.
