Lightning Strike Starts Brush Fire in Queenstown
QUEENSTOWN, Md. – Multiple fire companies responded to a large field in Queenstown on Saturday night after a lightning strike caused a brush fire.
As storms rolled through the area, first arriving units reported a large field on 140 Deer Landing Lane to be on fire from a lightning strike with exposure issues. The fire was estimated to be spread over 40 acres.
Responding crews arrived from the Queenstown, Centreville, Kent Island, Grasonville, Queen Anne Hillsboro, Easton, St. Michaels, Tilghman, and Oxford Volunteer Fire Companies.
“As part of our planning for this type of fire, several local farmers were notified,” the Easton Volunteer Fire Department said in a post on social media. “We have longstanding plans in place with area farmers to respond with tractors and disks to cut fire breaks and stop the spread when conditions call for it — and that teamwork made a real difference today.”
