Laurel Football prepares for 2026 season

LAUREL, Del. – WMDT Sports is working around the clock to do some local high school previews for the community.

This time, focusing on Laurel football. The Bulldogs are under a new era, with former alum and coaching veteran Kevin Niblett taking the helm as lead man.

Coach Niblett talking with WMDT about how the community always comes out and supports the boys in red.

“Laurel is a football town. It always has been since I came back here in the 80s and 90s. It has always supported our student-athletes very well.”

The 8th annual red and white scrimmage helps the coaching staff see the type of talent they have on both sides of the ball. The scrimmage also allows players who might not have the opportunity in practice to shine in front of the bright lights, mimicking many traditions of a game, like setting.

“All the way around, we have all been working hard. It’s good to see the kids stepping up and getting their opportunity, and give the effort like they gave.”

They start the season vs. one of Maryland’s best, Stephen Decatur, and then meet Brandywine in week 2 for the Battle of the Bone.

Coach Niblett, though, says he is ready to go, and the leadership in the trenches is the glue keeping the team sharp.

“Got a lot of great leaders right here, a lot of returners, we are deep on the line. A lot of seniors on the offensive line are becoming good leaders.”
