Snow Hill continues work on Comprehension Plan
SNOW HILL, Md. – The town of Snow Hill is focusing on its comprehension plan. The state requirement forces municipalities to update plans ahead to plan for 10-20 years. Officials invited the community to a public input meeting on Tuesday evening. The plan’s development will hinge on the forthcoming ideas and strategies.
Many residents and attendees were asked, how will your town look over the next 10 years? Mayor Janet Simpson was pleased with the turnout and excitement. “There are several stages, and right now, we are at the community input stage.”
Tony Bevilacqua, who leads the Planning and Zoning Commission, will be instrumental in putting the community’s ideas into action.
“What’s nice about this process here is that we have had a lot of outpouring from our community.”
The workshop featured interactive elements like geographic markers and a budgeting tool to mimic the town’s fund allocation process.
Previous surveys, as noted by Bevilacqua, revealed distinct focuses between older and younger residents.
The elders wanted more walking trails, while the young wanted improved basketball courts. Elders wanted more restaurants, and the young wanted food trucks.
However, both groups agreed that the town needs more affordable housing.
“Almost an 18% return rate on the surveys, which is much higher than you typically see,” said Bevilacqua.
A new resident, Erica Larsen, was among the attendees, she moved from Washington D.C. to Snow Hill recently. She explained to WMDT, the move was for a calmer, cozier way of life.
“Now that we are here, all the neighbors have invited us to say hi, and my social calendar is already full.”
The mayor understands that the insights gained from these sessions will help the town achieve its greatest possibilities. “It’s an exciting process and it’s going to develop the future of Snow Hill.”
