Walk Wicomico Hosts 21st Walk At Lunch Event

WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. The 21st annual Walk at Lunch was held in downtown Salisbury on Thursday afternoon at the amphitheater and riverwalk.

The event is hosted by a coalition called Walk Wicomico with support from Wicomico County and the Wicomico County Health Department. Organizers say the event promotes healthier lifestyles. About 150 to 175 people participated, taking a midday walk aimed at encouraging physical activity and helping prevent common diseases.

Tammy Griffin, director of prevention and health communications for the Wicomico County Health Department, said chronic disease remains a major concern both locally and nationwide.

“Walking is one of the best things you can do to help lose weight, increase your energy and reduce stress,” Griffin said. “It also helps reduce blood sugar levels and can aid in diabetes prevention.”

The event also featured health and wellness vendors offering on-site demonstrations and resources.
