OCEAN CITY, Md. – The Ocean City Police Department (OCPD) has arrested three individuals following a multi-agency pursuit in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police have arrested 19-year-old Qristian Gavin Durant and 19-year-old Edward Ray Reedy, Jr., both of Dover, on charges of obstructing and hindering and theft valued between $1,500 and $25,000. Reedy is also charged with multiple traffic-related offenses. Both men were seen by a Maryland District Court Commissioner; Durant was held on a $20,000 bond, while Reedy was held without bond.

Police also arrested a 17-year-old juvenile of Dover of the same theft charge, in addition to arresting him on an outstanding warrant from Kemper County Sheriff’s Office in Mississippi, for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon related to a shooting incident on Apr. 27. The juvenile was transported to the Lower Eastern Shore Children’s Center pending extradition proceedings.

On May 30, at 1:15 a.m., OCPD unsuccessfully attempted to stop a vehicle for excessive speeding on Baltimore Avenue. A second traffic stop was attempted on Philadelphia Avenue near 31st Street; but, the driver again failed to stop and accelerated away from officers. The vehicle continued northbound on Coastal Highway at a high rate of speed, running multiple red lights. Instead of attempting to pursue the vehicle, officers successfully deployed tire-deflation devices, also known as stop sticks, at the intersection of Coastal Highway and Route 90. The vehicle struck the devices, puncturing several tires, but continued westbound across the Route 90 bridge.

Deputies from the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) proceeded to attempt to stop the vehicle. The driver continued to flee, driving recklessly before eventually coming to a stop near Worcester Highway in Showell. Three occupants then exited the vehicle and fled into a nearby wooded area.

A perimeter was established and a coordinated search operation was immediately launched, involving WCSO, OCPD, the Berlin Police Department, the Maryland State Police Berlin Barrack, and the Maryland State Police Aviation Command Trooper 4. Officers located the driver, later identified Reedy, hiding on a property along Worcester Highway where he was taken into custody. OCPD K-9 teams located and apprehended a second suspect, identified as Durant, hiding beneath a nearby rear deck.

Later the same morning, at approximately 6:30 a.m., WCSO deputies located the third outstanding suspect, a 17-year-old juvenile from Dover, in the area where the vehicle had initially stopped. Investigators confirmed the juvenile had been an occupant of the stolen vehicle, and he was subsequently taken into custody.

OCPD coordinated with the Dover Police Department to contact the vehicle’s owner. Investigators later learned that the vehicle had been stolen from the owner’s residence in Dover, Delaware, late on the evening of May 29.
