Town of Milton files to remove ACLU signage lawsuit to federal court

The Town of Milton has responded to a complaint filed by the ACLU on behalf of Penny Nickerson regarding signs displayed in her front yard.
The Town has filed to remove the matter to federal court, a press released announced Wednesday.
Town officials believe past rulings by the U.S. Supreme Court confirm the town's right as a municipality to reasonably regulate the placement of displayed signs. Officials cite how signs could obstruct views, distract drivers and displace alternative uses for land, among other issues calling for regulation.
In the release, town officials claim they do not discriminate based on a resident's political views and that they will not comment further until the matter is resolved.
The ACLU filed a complaint after Nickerson was reportedly told by the town to remove a political sign. Town rules say political signs must come down 14 days after an election.
