BAYWOOD, Del. – One person was injured Saturday night after a golf cart crashed into a residential structure in the Baywood community near Long Neck, emergency officials said.

The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company responded around 9:12 p.m. to Cleek Way for a reported vehicle accident involving a golf cart and a person lying on the ground nearby. Additional responding agencies included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad and Sussex County paramedics.

Emergency crews arriving at the scene found that the golf cart had apparently lost control, ejecting at least one person before striking a nearby home, according to fire officials.

Rescue crews worked to stabilize the patient and secure the scene. One person was transported to a nearby medical facility for further evaluation and observation. Officials said medical helicopter units were unavailable because of weather conditions.

Units responding from Indian River included Rescue 80, Squad 80, Incident Command 80 and Delaware State Fire Police.

The Delaware State Police are investigating the crash.
