INDIAN RIVER, Del. — Firefighters from multiple Sussex County volunteer fire companies responded early Sunday morning to a residential structure fire in the River Breeze development near Millsboro, authorities said.

The fire was reported around 3:45 a.m. at a home in the 26000 block of River Breeze Drive off Bay Farm Road. Initial reports indicated flames were visible on a rear deck and extending into the residence.

Volunteer fire companies from Indian River, Lewes and Millsboro responded to the scene, along with the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad and Sussex County paramedics. Additional mutual aid assistance came from the Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Department, while the Milton Volunteer Fire Department provided standby coverage.

Fire crews arriving at the scene reported flames showing from the rear of the home near propane tanks. Firefighters deployed multiple hose lines to attack the blaze from both inside and outside the structure while additional crews established a water supply from a nearby hydrant at Bay Farm and River Breeze roads.

Authorities said the fire caused significant damage throughout much of the residence. All family members and dogs inside the home escaped safely and were accounted for.

The Delaware State Fire Police handled traffic control during the incident.

No firefighter or civilian injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office.
