SELBYVILLE, Md. — Spring on Delmarva means getting your hands a little dirty and your baskets full of strawberries — at Magee Farms in Selbyville, you can do just that. The multi-generational farm is a go-to spot for year-round family fun, offering seasonal activities for all ages.

“We have a u-pick strawberry field, we have a playground up front. . . We’ll have a flower garden out front where people can come pick bouquets and we’ll have sunflowers. . . We have a vegetable market up front and we also have feed for animals,” 5th generation farmer Christopher Magee said.

Magee says growing these strawberries is no small feat — it’s a practice the Magee family has spent decades perfecting.

“This whole farm at one point was strawberries because it took that long to grow them. Probably about 20 years ago, my father and I started. They call it plasticulture — so we lay the plastic, we plant the strawberries every September, [then we] put these white covers on, we over winter them, and then we only keep them for one year.”

And if strawberries aren’t your thing, don’t worry, there’s plenty more to see around the farm. Their cows might just win you over — they stole my heart pretty quickly.

What makes this farm even more unique is its history, now run by the fifth generation of the Magee family. “We can trace our family back to 1865 on these 60 acres here. Everything we do, part of the family is involved just to make sure that everything’s done right, and we take that aspect in just about everything we do.”

More than just a place to pick strawberries, this farm is all about family, tradition, and time well spent together. The Magee family says that’s why every visitor matters. “By supporting us, you keep the next generation going.”
