and spenser.. we have just 3 days left in the regular season here in maryland for our fall sports, and still a ton of conference races up for grabs yeah its pretty incredible that with just 1 or maybe 2 games left for our teams.. we only have about 3 of the 8 title races locked up a lot to play for still, not to mention playoff seeding its fun coming down the stretch the bennett boys soccer team was looking to keep pace for the lead in the bayside south today as they were at home, taking on easton. and the clippers would get off to a quick start in this one just 10 minutes into the match, and cermy onus beats his man.. takes it right at the keeper and is able to put it away to give bennett the early lead shortly after that, they were looking for more as peter gutosky takes a shot from just outside the box.. but it hits off the cross bar, no good warriors looking for the answer the cross finds xavier rahim who sends it on frame, but gabe dunn is able to come up with the save near post second half, clippers still pushing logan spotts with the shot.. gets by the keeper, but charlie petosa was there to head it away! they are still going at it, but last checked, bennett was up 2-0 late and a big congrats is in order for this junior high tennis team out of dover they places 2nd in the u-s-t-a junior team 14 and under national championships this past weeked in south carolina the team was made up of darin jawahar, allaire berl, alex savich, garrett wrede, erica synoski, collin bowers, victoria anyanwu and sam manjon, on to the college level some high honors going out today to a couple d-s-u players with the release of this weeks meac awards mike waters was named the conference rookie of the week after racking up 150 yards on the ground ernest mengoni on the other hand earned the co-offensive player of the week and over at wesley, some awards being handed out as well this is becoming a weekly thing now as e-j lee takes home the e-c-a-c rookie of the week for the 3rd straight time that comes after he had 83 yards last week on just 15 carries and not to be out done, s-u’s football team is getting some shine this afternoon as well aarron moore was tabbed the conferences special teams player of the week after his big game the indian river grad had a punt return for a score, while averaging over 34 yards per return on the day and keeping it over there at s-u, awards going out for their s-u mens soccer team as well nicholas carrington was named this weeks conference defensive player of the week that comes after he helped the gulls to a pair of shutout wins, improving their record to 6-6-1 on the year and last but not least with the awards today.. the wesley field hockey team morgan seymour takes home a pair of honors after she was tabbed as the e-c-a-c and the c-a-c defensive player of the week the smyrna grad recorded 9 saves in a pair of wolverine wins and sticking with a little field hockey some good news today going out for s-u’s squad, as the sea gulls moved up 1 spot in this weeks coaches poll, coming in at number 2 in the country s-u returns to work tonight, when they host c-n-u and time to start getting ready for some high school hoops this years governors challenge is about to be the biggest one yet, and we are going to kick this thing off right this sunday will be our annual, d-s-i governors challenge selection show special.. where we will release this years bracket, and break down some of the big matchups got to tune in for this thing, its going to be a great show that’s it for sports – more news and weather straight ahead. stay with us. catch more of the action on our sports page
