Delmarva Discovery Museum still needs community support

POCOMOKE CITY, Md. – One of the oldest establishments in Pocomoke facing some financial hardship. Executive Director of the Delmarva Discovery Museum, Christy Gordon, says this will take some community support.

On March 17th, Gordon and DDM officials wrote in a heartfelt message on Facebook after fearing closure.

“It is with heavy hearts that the Delmarva Discovery Museum’s Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to close the museum on Friday afternoon, March 20, 2026. This decision follows ongoing financial challenges that have made it increasingly difficult to sustain operations at an acceptable level into the foreseeable future; We are incredibly grateful for the support that our community has shown over the years.”

This announcement caused immediate and immense support from the community in Pocomoke and on Delmarva, allowing over $100,000 in emergency funding help in only 5 short days. The museum will survive through 2026 and will reopen on Memorial Day weekend.
However, for Gordon and company, this is where the real work begins: the museum seeks another $100,000 toward its ‘sustainability and enhancement initiative.’
“I think a lot of people have read that’s all we needed and we’re good to go, that money is very much needed,” said Gordon.
