New ‘intentional living’ community coming to Milton

Milton, Del. – There is a new community coming to Milton known as The Granary. Thursday saw a private event at the Dogfish Head Brewery ahead of a public grand opening on Saturday to launch The Granary, a community that features environmentally focused construction and an emphasis on “community through consciousness” by fostering “intentional living, everyday connection, and a deeper relationship with nature.”

CEO and Founder of Convergence Communities Colby Cox spoke with WMDT on the launch.

“I generally believe there’s three things that make people happy,” Cox said. “It’s connection to nature,  it’s connection to each other and it’s connection to the divine.”

The Granary, a 451-acre planned community, is designed to act as an extension of Milton. Upon full buildout, The Granary is said to have 1,350 residences and 60,000 square feet of neighborhood-scale commercial space. The Granary is also supposed to preserve roughly 110 acres of open space with 55 acres set aside for parks, including a 30-acre Granary Greens central park. The community will also feature built-in lighting meant to lessen light pollution and several walking and bike trails.

In remarks made to attendees of Thursday’s VIP preview of the grand opening, Cox spoke at length about how much spirituality and mindfulness influenced the construction of The Granary, saying he wanted residents to make lasting and meaningful connections with each other and nature.

“We all come from the same thing. We are all the same thing. We are different expressions of a singularity,” he said in a speech to attendees. This approach, Cox said, enabled him to focus on a community that prioritizes connection with nature.

He said that though some may look skeptically at his more “esoteric” approach, he said he believes in building more communities that revolve around a mindful approach to sustainability and human connection.

“I’ve got builders in here, they’re probably like, ‘what the **** are you talking about?'” He said. “But they don’t have to believe. I’ll go forward and they will come to believe when they see the results.”

As for results, though homes start at $400,000, Cox is confident they are as competitive as other projects being built.

“I think it’s going to be as marketable and on the same price point as any other projects, so it’s just going to be better,” he said.

Saturday’s grand opening event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and feature guided model home tours and fun events like puppy yoga, lawn games, e-bike demos and a scavenger hunt to explore the community.
