Cambridge South-Dorchester Advances to State Title
CAMBRIDGE, Md. – Cambridge South-Dorchester takes down Patterson Mill in a close contest that came down to the last shot.
CSD Guard Sterling Perkins made the big steal and took the loose ball for the tough layup. He said this game was all about the teaming coming together as one.
“My team needed me the most, we talked about this since day one, everybody didn’t believe in us, but we just wanted to come out and show a statement, you got to always play hard, and me playing hard, I got a steal and it helped us win.”
Patterson Mill was the higher seed, hosting Cambridge South Dorchester in the state 1A semifinals. Early in the game, James Hammond gets the rock and launches the 3 from the top of the key – that’s the first points of the game.
‘It was a big battle on the inside, K’Marion Hall played a great game down low, battling Hammond – he gets to his spot by force for the tough bucket.
Guys like Semaj Pinder and TJ Wilson helped the Vikings win the game, the veteran experience was crucial for the team. Pinder finds Wilson, who had three 3-pointers in the first quarter – his points helped CSD come back from the tough start.
1:43 left in the game, CSD down by 1 and -Perkins made the huge steal for the go-ahead points. He tells WMDT, it felt exhilarating. “This is big, this is legendary, this is the 3rd year in a row we have been to the state championship, I been there since my sophomore year, so it’s so big to me,” said Perkins.
Next possession was one of the biggest for the Vikings season, the turnover by Patterson allowed them to take full control. Pinder finds his jump shot and gets the lead to 3 points.
Patterson Mill could not tie the game in the final possession. Alex Kropp did get a rebound and score, plus the foul. However, he would miss the game tying free-throw.

“Yeah I had to put my emotions to the side for the last 2 minutes or so, told my teammates, leave everything for the last two minutes, its this or all, now we’re going back to states baby, let’s go.”
