Introducing TidalHealth Atlantic
BERLIN, Md. – In this week’s Health Beat, brought to you by Tidal Health, WMDT spoke with TidalHealth Atlantic President Don Owrey, MBA, FACHE and TidalHealth President and CEO Steve Leonard Ph.D., MBA, FACHE about Atlantic General Hospital’s new branding.
Atlantic General Hospital, now named TidalHealth Atlantic, first merged with the TidalHealth system nearly a year ago. The gentlemen say the partnership has been successful through due diligence on both organizations’ parts.
“First of all, we’re excited to be here today as a kind of a milestone occasion with a name change and so forth,” said Owrey. “We are one: TidalHealth Atlantic. It’s coming together, we’re better together.”
The transition also introduced the medical record service Epic to all locations. Epic’s patient portal, MyChart, can be used to check in prior to appointments, view test results, manage refills, contact practitioners, and pay bills online.
“Having one record allows a community member to interact with different points of the health care system without the paper being moved around,” explained Dr. Leonard. “They’ll have a much more seamless experience using the MyChart app.”
Owrey expanded on this idea by describing healthcare as a “team sport.” Through MyChart, all TidalHealth locations are able to communicate with one another. Having access to one hub for all medical facilities and records allows for a more seamless level of care for patients.
Dr. Leonard told WMDT that TidalHealth plans to rollout patient education that seeks to inform discharged individuals about aftercare and medical instructions.
“We have some very ambitious plans, to expand again, not only on services that we currently offer,” Owrey expanded. “But to introduce new services that are enabled through Epic and our merger with TidalHealth frankly.”
One of those plans is new TidalHealth location in Crisfield providing urgent and robust primary care. Additionally, the location will have a telemedicine room through Epic, allowing patients to visit with specialists across the region.
“We want to keep people healthy and well and out of the hospital. Well, the only way to really do that is to have a good relationship with the primary care provider,” Dr. Leonard concluded. “So, find a location close to home. We’ve got lots of locations out there at this point in time. We’re all in Epic now — make an appointment, get a physical, get checked out.”
