Pocomoke tops Mardela in double OT thriller for Region Championship
MARDELA SPRINGS, Md. – Pocomoke girl’s basketball outlasted Mardela 37-34 in double overtime in Mardela Springs to claim the 1A East II Region Championship.
A low-scoring first half saw the home Warriors take an 11-8 lead into the break. Both teams opened their offenses in the third quarter, with Mardela holding a 23-21 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
The game head to overtime tied at 29-29. With time expiring in the extra period, Mardela’s Kate Quade hit a three-pointer that knotted the game at 34, sending it to a second overtime.
It was Emily Dorsey providing Pocomoke with the lift they needed in the game’s sixth frame, getting a bucket in the paint that proved decisive.
Pocomoke advances to the MPSSAA Quarterfinals, where they will play at Smithsburg at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 7th.
