Worcester County Commissioner Caryn Abbott talks upcoming election
WORCESTER COUNTY, Md. – The Worcester County Commissioners are getting ready for their re-election cycle.
Multiple spots will be up on the ballot, with the election set for the June 23rd primary.
Voters will decide who takes the District One set, which is currently held by Commissioner Caryn Abbott.
Abbott is facing three challengers: Laura Morrison, Shaun Shockley, and Wayne Taylor.
The primary election will determine the winner, since all four candidates are Republicans. Commissioner Caryn Abbott believes this election holds importance.
” To continue to protect the people that fund the government here in Worcester County – and that is the taxpayer. We’ve done a few things, but got more to do. But the main things are the increased law enforcement salaries, we’ve cut the property tax by 3 cents, and the homestead tax credit we cut to zero.”
Caryn Abbott was elected County Commissioner in 2022. She said during her time in office, she has helped put several initiatives in place, including work on the county’s sports complex and collaboration with the local school district.
Abbott also says she prides herself on being transparent and focused on the needs of the people in her county and district.
“It’s going to come down to turnout and the base coming out that supports what we have done the last 4 years, and would like 4 more years of that.”
The Worcester County Commissioners will spend the next month or two focused on the county budget, after that, campaign season will quickly ramp up.
