LEIPSIC, Del. – The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office has ruled a Leipsic house fire that occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning was accidental.

Around 2:40 a.m. on Mar. 1, the Leipsic Volunteer Fire Department was alerted to a residential structure fire in the 100 block of Front Street. Initial reports indicated that people were possibly trapped inside the residence. Firefighters from Leipsic, Cheswold, Smyrna, Clayton, and Little Creek fire companies and the Dover Fire Department arrived on scene and found fire coming from the roof of the residence. Crews worked for nearly two hours to bring the fire under control. Searches of the two-story home revealed that it was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

The total damage to the structure and its contents is estimated to be valued at $125,000. No injuries were reported.

Investigators responded to the scene to investigate the origin and cause of the fire. They determined that an electrical failure in the attic caused the fire. Minor damage occurred to another unoccupied residence.
